AIYA Links: 16 March

• There has been a rising trend of social media facilitating the radicalisation and recruitment of a new generation of terrorists. Terrorism scholar Solahudin writes the role of social media in terrorism ‘zaman now’.
• The drafting process of Indonesia’s Criminal Code, the KUHP, has gained criticisms due to its regressive articles. • Rights group Ciliwung Merdeka urged the Jakarta administration to come good with its promise to build kampung susun or “stacked kampung,” for residents who now live on the banks of the Ciliwung River. Long associated with poor neighborhoods, kampung susun is a new concept that urban artists love.

• Adelaide, 22 March – Join AIYA SA for their official opening event of the year, ‘Nibbles & Nongkrong’ at the Cumberland Hotel. This will be a get-to-know-you event for all those interested in the Australia-Indonesia relationship and newcomers to Adelaide are encouraged to attend! • Sydney, 27 March – Join Edward Herbst, Director of the Bali 1928 Repatriation Project, for a lecture and film screening on gender, crossing-dressing and androgyny in 1930’s archival films in Balinese dance-drama.
• Perth, 27 March – AIYA WA will be hosting a Basa-Basi event with Jewel Topsfield, former Indonesia Correspondent for The Age and Sydney Morning Herald.
