  • Canberra, 21- 23 February – Come along to Canberra’s 2020 Multicultural Festival this weekend. The Indonesian Embassy will have a stall, and present a traditional dance on Saturday – read more here.
  • Canberra, 28 February – AIA social dinner will be taking place in Kita Cafe! With a menu that includes nasi goreng, gado-gado, to dadar guling among other, the aim of this meal is to have AIA members and supporters get together for a social occasion over Indonesian food.   • Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, 16-19 March – Lowy Institute presents ‘Indonesia; A tough road ahead.’ Join Wijayanto Samirin, economic adviser to the governor of Jakarta, and Ben Bland, Director of the Lowy Institute’s Southeast Asia Program, to discuss the outlook for the economy, the state of democracy and Indonesia’s place in the world.   • Melbourne, 20 February – 28 March – Asia-Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts (Asia-TOPA) returns to celebrate the creative imagination of artists and cultures in the Asia-Pacific region.   • Melbourne, 24 February – Join Monash University’s Art Design and Architecture School for “Smart Cities Indonesia”, a lecture from the leader of Indonesia’s largest province and prominent architect, West Java Governor HE Ridwan Kamil. Register.
  • Perth, 4 March – Come along to ‘Close to home: Discovering female Indonesian writers’, 5:30pm – 7pm. This event, jointly hosted by the Centre for Stories, the Australia Indonesia Centre and the UWA Public Policy Institute, will highlight the work of female Indonesian writers who have challenged dominant narratives.   • Sydney, 22 February – Come to Indonesia Australia Women’s Association and Indonesian Consulate’s ‘Jajan Pasar Day’ at Wisma Indonesia.   • Sydney, 20 March – Join AIYA NSW for its annual Malam Karier in UTS CB04.03.310 from 6-9 pm. This year’s topic will be “Human Skills We Need in an Unpredictable World,” to gear future work-seekers towards a complex future.

  • Applications for the Victorian Young Leaders to Indonesia (VYL Indonesia) 2020 are open until COB Friday 21 February (today!). VYL Indonesia offers a five-week language and cultural overseas immersion program for 40 Victorian Year 9 students and accompanying teachers in 2020. The program aims to develop a deeper understanding of Indonesia, its people and its culture whilst building participants’ Indonesian language, intercultural capability and global citizenship and leadership skills.   • Asialink, University of Melbourne, is seeking a Programs Coordinator (based in Melbourne), to provide support for Asialink Business’s capability development group which is responsible for developing, managing and delivering executive education and training solutions.   • Applications for the new Hamer Scholarships Program will open until 29 March 2020. The program has been revamped with a sharpened business focus and offers Victorians working in Victorian businesses the opportunity to undertake 5-6 months of intensive language study in China, Japan, Korea or Indonesia while delivering an in-market business project. Scholarships are worth $10,000 for China and Indonesia and $15,000 for Japan and Korea. Eligibility criteria and the new program guidelines can be found here.
  • Australia Awards CAFE Program is seeking Australian volunteers from a wide-range of backgrounds and connects Indonesians studying in Australia with like-minded Australians.   • Applications for the Darmasiswa Indonesian Scholarship Program, academic year 2020-2021, are currently open for registration. Organised by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, Darmasiswa is a scholarship program offered to all foreign students for countries which have diplomatic relations with Indonesia to study Indonesian.   • The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) is seeking native speakers of Indonesians to become role-players in interpreter certification tests.   • Applications for ACICIS Semester Programs running in Semester 2, 2020 close 15 March/8 April! Study, intern and immerse yourself in Indonesia! Programs are available in Agriculture, Law, Business, Development Studies, International Relations, Indonesian Language Teaching, and Indonesian Language. $7,000-$8,000 New Colombo Plan grants are available for eligible university students.
  • Spend winter in Indonesia! Applications for the ACICIS Indonesian Language Short Course (ILSC), running over three weeks in July 2020 at Satya Wacana University in Salatiga, close 1 April! $3,000 New Colombo Plan grants are available for eligible university students.
  • Attend the VILTA Annual Conference! Held on 6 March 2020, don’t miss out on Victorian Indonesian Language Teachers’ Association’s biggest event with speakers and participants from around the state coming to discuss all things Indonesian.   • Pemberdayaan Perempuan Memerangi Kemiskinan (PPMK) is a microfinance organisation based in Yogyakarta that work to empower women to fight poverty. They also provide free English classes to children and are currently working to establish an English book library, so children can continue learning at home.
