  • Indonesia’s wildlife markets are “like a cafeteria for animal pathogens,” but they have resisted efforts to close even as China has shut its own markets over coronavirus fears. The New York Times explores a market in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, that continues to operate today. (The New York Times)

  • In early January 2016, a young Indonesian woman collapsed in a Jakartan cafe after drinking coffee and died before she reached hospital. Police indicate that cyanide poisoning was the most likely cause of her death, and arrested her best-friend.   • Lebaran sudah di depan mata. Walaupun saat ini waktu lebaran tidak dapat dirayakan dengan keluarga atau sanak saudara yang lain karena situasi pandemic, namun semangatnya jangan sampai hilang yah, teman. Nah, untuk memeriahkan perayaan lebaran, kali ini tim AIYA National akan membagikan beberapa hal yang biasanya dilakukan untuk menyambut lebaran selama masa social distancing dari berbagai sumber.

COVID-19 support

  • AIYA is providing updates on the status of COVID-19 and its impact on upcoming AIYA events as well as the current status of travel restrictions for Australian and Indonesian citizens. To keep updated, read it here – Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • AIYA is aware that some of our members may be going through difficulties due to the circumstances of the pandemic. Government information including support for international students in Australia and Indonesia is on the website.
  • For all foreigners in Indonesia, there is an automatic emergency stay permit extension for all visa types. Foreign nationals who cannot return to their home countries do not need to apply for an extension of their stay permit with the immigration office. This is for foreigners arriving in Indonesia after Feb. 5 2020. More info here.

  • Initiated by Airlangga Global Engagement, Airlangga Flatten the Curve Competition (AFCC) 2020 aims to encourage International Students, both in Indonesia and overseas, to contribute to the efforts of containing the spread of Covid-19.
