The Australia-Indonesia Youth Association is a non-government, youth-led organisation that aims to better connect, inform and inspire young Australians and Indonesians and to foster and facilitate increased bilateral youth engagement.

The role of National President (chair of the National Executive) requires a more substantial commitment than other board members. The National President oversees all portfolios of the National Executive, working with the other board members to set the direction for the organisation as a whole. As AIYA’s most public-facing position, the President’s role is to represent AIYA’s interests at events and in discussions with partners & supporters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the other AIYA Directors and AIYA National Officers to achieve targets and working with AIYA Chapters where necessary.
  • Inspiring the broader AIYA volunteer team to grow existing networks in Australia and Indonesia that could be of benefit to AIYA, and to actively seek new and appropriate opportunities for growth.
  • Assisting the Partnerships and Membership team to liaise with partner organisations, including government departments, and universities throughout Australia and Indonesia.
  • Networking with potential in-kind and financial sponsors – attending networking events and Australia-Indonesia-related events and seminars.
  • Assisting to prepare internal and external documents, including policies, partnership and sponsorship documentation and various publications.
  • Working with the Communications team and oversee the use of technology and management of the website and social media channels.
  • Assisting the Treasurer and oversee financial management of the organisation and compliance with relevant legal requirements.
  • Assisting the Operations team to guide chapter executives and chapter events/programs, and overseeing other AIYA National initiatives, including NAILA.
  • Assisting the Company Secretary with corporate administration matters.
  • Chairing monthly meetings of the National Executive.

Skills and Eligibility:

  • Must be an AIYA Member.
  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or enrolled).
  • Currently based in either Australia or Indonesia.
  • Strong understanding of and interest in the Australia-Indonesia relationship.
  • Strong networking, presentation and public speaking skills in order to represent the organisations to external stakeholders and manage AIYA’s internal volunteers.
  • Fluency in English and advanced or native-speaker Bahasa Indonesia language skills.
  • Excellent leadership experience in AIYA and/or other student, community or other organisations or not-for-profits, including demonstrated ability to manage teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, review and challenge management in order to make informed decisions and assess performance.
  • Responsive to emails and Whatsapp.
  • Skills in MS Word and MS Excel, particularly in using Google’s suite of cloud-based applications i.e Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets.
  • Desired: active member of like-minded organisations, such as Foundation for Young Australians, AIBC, AIIA.
  • Must have a committed, positive and ‘semangat’ attitude to the role and be full of ideas!
