The Australia-Indonesia Youth Association is a non-government, youth-led organisation that aims to better connect, inform and inspire young Australians and Indonesians and to foster and facilitate increased bilateral youth engagement.

The role of National Treasurer requires a significant commitment and investment to the long- term strategic goals of AIYA. The National Treasurer role is pivotal for the financial management and sustainability of the organisation, including general oversight of AIYA Chapters’ finances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing AIYA National bank account, tracking and projecting income and expenditure of the organisation as a whole.
  • Managing AIYA’s day-to-day financial affairs, including auditing and record-keeping of Chapters’ expenditures and relevant reimbursements.
  • Working with AIYA National President and AIYA Partnerships team in preparing grant applications, taking into account AIYA National and Chapter financial needs.
  • Preparing financial statements and acquittals for the organisation, which includes managing relevant records such as invoices and receipts.
  • Keeping track of Chapters’ trust funds and membership income, ensuring regular updates to the Chapters on financial matters.
  • Working with the Director of Operations in reviewing and approving event budget requests from Chapters while promoting AIYA membership benefits.
  • Liaising and consulting with AIYA Chapter Treasurers on event planning.
  • Assisting the National Executive with strategic direction.
  • Assisting the Partnerships & Membership team with potential partnerships and relevant obligations with the partners/sponsors.
  • Ensuring timely payment of invoices, suppliers and compliance fees.
  • Liaising with external parties for the organisation’s as required.
  • Attending the monthly National Executive Meeting to provide updates to the National Executive.

Skills and Eligibility:

  • Must be an AIYA Member.
  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or enrolled).
  • Currently based in Australia.
  • Strong understanding of and interest in the Australia-Indonesia relationship.
  • Strong attention to detail and comfortable working with figures.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and use of Google’s suite of cloud-based applications i.e Google
  • Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets.
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of accounting and preparation of financial statements is preferred, however a strong willingness to learn will be considered.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Advanced or native-speaker Bahasa Indonesia will be highly regarded but not compulsory.
  • Previous experience in AIYA and/or other student, community or other organisations or not-for-profits, including demonstrated ability to manage finances and handling budgets.
  • Responsive to emails and Whatsapp messages.
  • Must have a committed, positive and ‘semangat’ attitude to the role!
