Mentari Rahman

AIYA Eastern Indonesia

Posted on 19 September, 2018

Mentari holds a Bachelor’s degree in communication from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). During her undergraduate studies in Yogyakarta, Mentari also volunteered in HIV, disaster relief, sustainable tourism, and youth development. Mentari’s passion for helping others has drawn her to work in a non-for-profit organisation in Makassar. Furthermore, Mentari’s involvement as a volunteer for the ACICIS and AIYEP, as well as her interest in early contact between Makassar and Northern Australia prompted her to establish an AIYA Eastern Indonesia in Makassar to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. As a co-founder, Mentari also introduced an entrepreneurial Australian student organisation, the Intellectual Property, Innovation, and Technology Society (IPITS), to Makassar and Indonesia.  Mentari hopes that initiatives such as AIYA and IPITS will help drive Makassar’s economy by increasing local tourism, study, trade, and private investment. These key factors will serve in launching her hometown’s reputation on the international stage.
