The Western Australia chapter of the Australia-Indonesia Youth Association (AIYA WA) this week announced its inaugural executive committee, along with its strategic plan for the coming 12 months. For 2012-2013, AIYA WA has identified four key aims and objectives:

  1. To connect students and young persons with Indonesia-focused career and internship opportunities;
  2. To promote the importance of Indonesia-literacy in the ‘Asian Century’;
  3. To address the current lack of information for Indonesian students about career pathways and opportunities both in Indonesia and Australia;
  4. To allow young graduates, current students, and people with an interest in Indonesia to meet, network and share information about Indonesia-focused careers.

The role of President will be filled by University of Western Australia student Natrisha Barnett, who will work as the official ‘face’ of AIYA WA, responsible for calling and chairing meetings, and setting the chapter’s overall strategic direction.

Dian Marin Purnama will take the position of Treasurer, along with Secretary Alex Gibson and Community Liason Mike TarnRaafi Nurkarim Ardikoesoema will work as the chapter’s Events Coordinator, alongside Marketing and Communications Coordinator Danny Fairhead.

The chapter will look to develop existing relationships with groups such as the Australia-Indonesia Business Council, PPIA-WA, the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesian Studies based at Murdoch University, and university clubs, while at the same time generating new internship and sponsorship opportunities for AIYA WA members.

AIYA WA also passed its constitution.
