  • Melbourne, 13 September – Join founder of Javara Indonesia and one of Asia’s top entrepreneurs, Helianti Hilman, from 12pm as she shares her life’s work in the first of Asia Society’s interactive lunchtime series – ‘Food & Function (Lessons from Indonesia)’. Helianti will share how her organisation works to sustain farmers throughout Indonesia through a revival of indigenous wisdom and traditional conservation practices.   • Sydney, 19 September – Organised by the Indonesian Embassy, Consulates and Trade Promotion Centre, this year’s annual Indonesia-Australia Business Summit is themed, “IACEPA: Capitalizing Partnership, Gaining Mutual Benefits” and consists of seminars featuring high-level Government Officials from Indonesia and Australia as well as notable private sectors.   • Got no summer plans yet? Applications are open for Learning Languages Locally: Indonesia! This is an incredible short exchange program (open to all ANU undergraduate students with elective space) that allows you to study in-country and learn Bahasa Indonesia.   • The Australia-Indonesia Centre is hiring a PAIR Administrative Officer. The position is a full-time, 12-month contract based in Makassar, South Sulawesi. PAIR is an AIC initiative supported by the Australian Government, the Indonesian Government and 11 leading universities to advance the research linkages between the two countries.   • SBS Radio presents the SBS National Languages Competition 2019 to encourage and celebrate a love of learning languages in Australia.   • IndoAustay are running the next Adult Language Immersion Course in Bandung, 6 – 17 January, 2020. The two-week course is taught at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung and is a great way to learn more about Indonesian language and culture.   • The Herb Feith Scholarships scheme is a new initiative of the Monash Herb Feith Indonesian Engagement Centre. Scholarships support graduate researchers to complete an MA or PhD at Monash University on a topic related to Indonesia.   • The Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) is seeking host families in Canberra for the period 14 October to 1 November 2019.   • The AIMEP is a prestigious international program which invites emerging Muslim leaders in Australia and Indonesia to engage in an intensive two-week visit of cultural, social, interreligious, and intellectual exchange with their neighbouring country.   • The Asia Centre’s 5th International Conference (to be held in Bangkok, July 2020) will focus on ‘Hate Speech in Asia: Challenges and Solutions. They are now accepting abstracts until 15 December 2019. Submit yours and/or register for the conference here.
  • Pemberdayaan Perempuan Memerangi Kemiskinan (PPMK) is a microfinance organisation based in Yogyakarta that work to empower women to fight poverty. They also provide free English classes to children and are currently working to establish an English book library, so children can continue learning at home.
