In the news

  • The free trade negotiations between Indonesia and Australia resumed last week, and has reached near completion. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull had hoped to sign the agreement as President Joko Widodo arrives in Sydney next week for a special Australia and ASEAN Leaders Summit.
  • U.S. News released their 2018 Best Countries ranking and Indonesia and Australia made to top 20 best countries for investing.
  • Inside Indonesia celebrates its 35th year and compiles select articles in their Special Edition.
  • Diver Rich Horner uploaded a video seen swimming through masses of floating plastic at a dive spot off Bali, saying that he has “never seen anything like this scale” of ocean pollution before.
  • UnionSPACE launched a partnership with Australian fintech-focussed coworking space operator Stone & Chalk in Jakarta, which allows fintech startups in Australia and Indonesia to use coworking spaces and share the latest knowledge.
  • The Biennale of Sydney has announced artists who will present work at venues across Sydney. Support the work of Indonesia-based artist Julian Abraham ‘Togar’ showcased in Cockatoo Island.

  • Applications for the Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII) Grant Round 2018/19 is now open! AII grants contribute to a more broadly based and enduring relationship between Australia and Indonesia and foster positive images of Australia and Indonesia in each other’s country.
