  • Canberra, 16 November – Come along to Festival Indonesia 2019, hosted by the Indonesian Embassy from 10:30am – 4pm. It features five main attractions, namely: Indonesian Food Stalls, Live Cultural Performances, Art and Cultural Exhibitions, Art Workshop/Demo, as well as Kids Corner and Photo Booth.   • Canberra, November 19-21 – The ANU Indonesia Institute is hosting the Indonesia Council Open Conference (with a postgraduate workshop on November 19). It is a free conference with multiple panels on many aspects of Indonesian society, politics, culture, environment, history and more. Don’t miss the session two’s panel on ‘soft power and student mobility’, examining the impact the NCP and other scholarship programs (eg. Australia Awards) are having on the Australia-Indonesia relationship, from 11:00 – 12:30pm in the Acton Theatre. There will also be a breakout discussion from 12:30 – 1:30pm featuring current/recent participants of these key bilateral flagship initiatives to gauge their experiences and evaluate their role in deepening bilateral relations.   • Jakarta, 30 November – The Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy (CIFP) is the country’s biggest festival of diplomacy and also happens to be the world’s largest foreign policy conference. The chosen theme for this year is “Cooling Off The Hot Peace: Strategic Opportunities and Economic Remedies for a Distressful World,”. Register for their annual event here.
  • Kupang, 16 November – Come join AIYA East Indo-Kupang’s Language Exchange at Aussie Banget Corner, Nusa Cendana University Kupang, 11am onwards. This week’s theme is ‘Heroes’. See their IG for more information.

  • Got a creative idea? AIYA wants to hear from you! We are still on the hunt for submissions from our members to be published in the AIYA Annual 2019. Note – deadline for submissions has been extended until 17 November 2019. Learn more here!
  • Join AIYA Queensland! AIYA Queensland are recruiting their new executive team, to be decided at their AGM on 30 November 2019. Available positions include Chapter President, Secretary, Treasurer and General Committee Member/s. Express your interest in a position via the Google Form.   • Call for volunteers! ANU’s Indonesia Conference (19 – 21 November) is looking for extra support, with duties including welcoming guests, liaising with speakers on arrival, helping with setting up/packing down, and troubleshooting any IT needs during the conference. See the event details – send the AIYA ACT Facebook page a message if you’re interested in volunteering.
  • The Australian Volunteers for International Development Program (Australia Aid) currently have a number of volunteer assignments in Indonesia, including an Academic Advisor (12 months) in Yogyakarta,  a Cricket Development Officer and Coach (12 months) in Bali, an ICT Officer (6 months) in Jakarta, and a Disabed Sports Development Officer in Bali.   • Pemberdayaan Perempuan Memerangi Kemiskinan (PPMK) is a microfinance organisation based in Yogyakarta that work to empower women to fight poverty. They also provide free English classes to children and are currently working to establish an English book library, so children can continue learning at home.
