  • Canberra, 27 March – Don’t miss the NTA ‘Fun-d’ Raising DInner, from 6.30pm at the Woden Southern Cross Club. NTA help to raise funds to tackle poverty and malnutrition in the poor farming communities of eastern Indonesia. Book a ticket or table here.

  • Melbourne, 20 February – 28 March – Asia-Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts (Asia-TOPA) returns to celebrate the creative imagination of artists and cultures in the Asia-Pacific region.   • Sydney, 14 March – Eliza Vitri Handayani—Indonesian writer, translator, and founder of the Indonesian arts initiative InterSastra—is visiting Sydney and will be speaking alongside the award-winning Australian author Julie Koh about what’s going on behind the scenes of Unrepressed — InterSastra’s  latest literature-in-translation series.   • Sydney, 20 March – Join AIYA NSW for its annual Malam Karier in UTS CB04.03.310 from 6-9 pm. This year’s topic will be “Human Skills We Need in an Unpredictable World,” to gear future work-seekers towards a complex future.
  • Sydney, 22 March – Don’t miss the book launch of ‘The Colour of Things Unseen’ by author Annee Lawrence, from 3.30pm. The central character in the novel is a young Javanese man, Adi, who has a scholarship to travel to Australia to study art. The novel explores cross-cultural relationships between people. RSVP here.
  • Ubud, 17-19 April- One of the most anticipated culinary event in Indonesia, Ubud food festival is coming back this April! The festival will celebrate the unsung heroes of Indonesia’s culinary cultures, who work tirelessly to put the best food on the plate. Tickets are now on sale.

  • The ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership is currently recruiting for a number of positions. Applications closing 15 March 2020. Read more about the available positions here.
  • Applications for ACICIS Semester Programs running in Semester 2, 2020 close 15 March/8 April! Study, intern and immerse yourself in Indonesia! Programs are available in Agriculture, Law, Business, Development Studies, International Relations, Indonesian Language Teaching, and Indonesian Language. $7,000-$8,000 New Colombo Plan grants are available for eligible university students.
  • Applications for the new Hamer Scholarships Program will open until 29 March 2020. The program has been revamped with a sharpened business focus and offers Victorians working in Victorian businesses the opportunity to undertake 5-6 months of intensive language study in China, Japan, Korea or Indonesia while delivering an in-market business project. Scholarships are worth $10,000 for China and Indonesia and $15,000 for Japan and Korea. Eligibility criteria and the new program guidelines can be found here.
  • 2020 Research Grants – call for proposals. The 2020 ANU Indonesia Project and The SMERU Research Institute Research Grants program is now open. The research grants will provide funding between AU$5000 to AU$15,000 for research projects of up to 12 months. Application deadline: 31 March 2020.   • 2020 Research Travel Grants – call for applications. ANU Indonesia Project is offering the tenth round of travel grants in 2020 to individual students undertaking or planning to undertake research for which they would benefit from traveling to Indonesia.   • 2020 Visiting Fellow Program – call for proposals. Are you an Indonesian academic? Would you like to visit The Australian National University to undertake scholarly work? Deadline to submit an application: 31 March 2020. Program guidelines.
  • Spend winter in Indonesia! Applications for the ACICIS Indonesian Language Short Course (ILSC), running over three weeks in July 2020 at Satya Wacana University in Salatiga, close 1 April! $3,000 New Colombo Plan grants are available for eligible university students.
  • Applications for internships at the Australian Embassy Indonesia are now open.  We welcome applications from Australian and Indonesian postgraduate students to undertake an internship for a period of 8 weeks from 29 June to 21 August 2020. Applications close on Sunday 5 April 2020. Apply here.

  • Application for Southeast Asia Emerging Scholars Conference is now open. The conference is an opportunity for postgraduates and early career researchers working on Southeast Asia-related topics to present their research in preparation for upcoming conferences.   • Pemberdayaan Perempuan Memerangi Kemiskinan (PPMK) is a microfinance organisation based in Yogyakarta that work to empower women to fight poverty. They also provide free English classes to children and are currently working to establish an English book library, so children can continue learning at home.
